Jack de Keyzer and Stephen Harper? Print E-mail
Written by newspaper source

What does Jack de Keyzer have to do with Canadian politics? Prime Minister Harper's wife, Laureen, is a big fan and asked Jack for a special performance at 24 Sussex Drive.

As published in the Globe and Mail on January 24, 2009:

dekeyzer001.jpg Jack de Keyzer: The blues guitarist gave a command performance Jan. 16 at 24 Sussex Dr. and a guitar lesson to the Prime Minister's 12-year-old son, Ben Harper. Laureen Harper spotted an article in the Ottawa Sun noting that Mr. de Keyzer, a Toronto-area guitarist and Juno award winner, was to perform in Ottawa. She is a big fan and so she sent him an e-mail, asking him whether he could go to the residence to play for Ben, a fledgling guitarist.

Mr. de Keyzer said the young Mr. Harper is a "quick study with a keen ear and a strong passion for music" and that he and Ben jammed for more than an hour. "The future of Canadian rock and blues appears to be in good hands," Mr. de Keyzer said.
