ROXANNE
POTVIN BLUES BAND |
January 16 & 17,
2009 |
|
What a GREAT two nights we were all
treated to last weekend from the ROXANNE POTVIN BLUES BAND at BLUES ON THE
RIDEAU @ THE COVE INN, WESTPORT. Both nights Sold Out. Roxanne was superb on
guitar and vocals exuding talent and confidence beyond her years.
She was backed by an extremely
talented trio from Toronto (none of whom was over age 30) that are best known as
Jazz musicans but boy did they lay down some great Blues
together.

Brandi Disterheft on standup bass
(she just won the 2008 Juno for Best Classical Jazz Album of the Year), Sly
Juhas on drums and Chris Gayle on sax.

Although Roxanne has ventured into
other genres on her most recent CD "No Love For The Poisonous" (which is getting
rave reviews and lots of air play) she delivered straight up Blues for this gig.
Freddie King, Jimmy Reed, Big Mama Thornton, Joe Tex, Dinah Washington tunes and
more. Double encores both nights.
