Julian Fauth, winner of several awards - Juno and Maple Blues Awards, has unfortunately had a nasty fall and has broken his right shoulder in four places. This means that as a full-time musician, Julian will not be able to perform for several months and has no means to support himself (musicians don't get EI or short-term disability).

Several benefit concerts have already taken place with more to come. Below is a brief blog and videos of the benefit concert that took place at Hugh's Room on Tuesday, June 28.

Please be sure to scroll to the bottom to see how you can help support Julian through these upcoming months.

Although having a great time at the expense of someone else's injury felt not quite right at times, I have to admit I had a fabuous time at Julian Fauth's benefit concert which took place at Hugh's Room on Tuesday, June 28.

I was with a group of five other Niagara blues cruisers, and die-hard fans of Julian, who bought tickets as soon as we heard it was taking place. Even though traffic delayed us somewhat, we still managed to get there in time to get a great table at the front - perfect for me as I had hoped to be able to record some of the show. I could not have asked for a better seat. But, is there really a bad seat anywhere at Hugh's Room?

A cold beer, a scrumptious dinner and great conversation started out the evening on a fine note. Everywhere I turned I saw familiar faces and I got to chat with many friends I mostly connect with online. There are also a few I saw from afar but did not have the chance to chat with. Everyone felt the same - it was great to be here but we wished it were for different circumstances.

An exquisite painting of Julian by Dania Madera-Lerman was donated for a silent auction and proceeds from the sale of all CDs were also donated to Julian. The evening generated $2,500 for Julian. As great as this is, we all know that he will need much more than that to survive over the next few months. Please be generous and donate some more through the links listed below or attend one of the upcoming benefits.

The line-up was fabulous: Harrison Kennedy, Paul Reddick, Bobby Dean Blackburn, Blackburn (the band), Treasa Levasseur, Donne Roberts, Andrew Austin, James Thomson and Jay Danley.

It truly was a great night. With all of the disconnect and lack of compassion that seems to be more of the norm in our society these days, I am always grateful that our blues community comes together when one of theirs is in need. Hats off to those who have been proactive in helping Julian in these tough times.

(All videos shot with a Canon PowerShot point & shoot camera so don't expect HD quality! I apologize for the shakiness at times - had to adjust the camera on my knee since I forgot my tirpod.)
