Fall - Winter 2008:

“Toronto based Electro-Fi Records has carved out a reputation for itself as one of the few remaining practitioners of Genuine Blues recordings. A sort of Chess Records of the Great White North and the names of those who have come through the recording studios at Electro-Fi read like a Who’s Who of the Blues”.  - LIVING BLUES Magazine, 2008.

After a Summer of too much fun on the Festival circuit it’s back to the job we love best and we’re happy to announce three new blues releases from your friends here at Electro-Fi Records.

First up MARK HUMMEL’S HARMONICA BLOWOUTS “Still Here and Gone” (EFI-3410) a 2 CD set that showcases the very best of Mark’s Legendary Harmonica Blowout Shows recorded Live between 1993 – 2007 and featuring 12 of the greatest Blues Artists to ever draw breath through a Harmonica: MAGIC DICK (J. Geils Band), LEE OSKAR, RICK ESTRIN, WILLIAM CLARKE, PAUL deLAY, CAREY BELL, JAMES HARMAN, JOHNNY DYER, SAM MYERS, LAZY LESTER, BILLY BOY ARNOLD & MARK HUMMEL. Special Guest Guitarists include: RUSTY ZINN, ANSON FUNDERBURGH, CHARLES WHEAL, and JUNIOR WATSON. “Still Here and Gone” seems destined to be the “must have” Blues Harp CD of the Year. Don’t miss the current Harmonica Blowout Tour.

“Mark Hummel knows more than a thing or two about how to please an audience”
– New Yorker

“DEEP IN THE NIGHT” is Mississippi Guitar Ace LIL’ DAVE THOMPSON’S second release on the Electro-Fi label and it shines a light on Dave’s considerable guitar, vocal and songwriting skills. Few artists have Lil’ Dave’s Deep Blues pedigree, having toured and recorded with Delta Legends: R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and Booba Barnes while still in his 20’s. Lil’ Dave has been touring non-stop coast to coast with his real deal Greenville, Mississippi for the past two years and all that roadwork has paid off big time on “Deep in the Night”. DOWNBEAT Magazine featured Lil’ Dave in a July 2008 profile “New Blues Perspectives” and here at Electro-Fi we consider him the Best Mississippi Guitarist under 40 on the Blues Scene today. Don’t miss him Live. Tour Dates at www.lildavethompson.com

“Whoa, Lil’ Dave plays Blues of the Highest Order”
– New York Times

“NIGHT BIRD BLUES” is the next chapter in Diana Braithwaite & Chris Whiteley’s wide ranging tribute to the Blues of the 1930’s and 40’s. Once again this dynamic duo has chosen to take an acoustic and original approach. Their horizons have expanded to not only include the “BlueBird” sound so lovingly captured on their widely acclaimed “MORNING SUN” CD, but also to pay tribute to some of the smoother Blues classics of that era. Top notch singing and playing, an all star band and insightful original material deeply rooted in the Blues. The result is NIGHT BIRD BLUES. Chris and Diana tour Europe and the U.K. all through the Fall. U.S. release in early 2009. www.braithwaiteandwhiteley.com

“ Braithwaite & Whiteley have a beautiful way with a song. An Album brimming with Heart”
– Blues Revue

BILLY BOY ARNOLD: Toured Europe in support of his new Electro-Fi release “BILLY BOY SINGS SONNY BOY” and was featured in major articles in both Blues Revue and Living Blues which also nominated him for a Living Blues Award as Most Outstanding Musician – Harmonica. www.billyboyarnold.com . Check out a podcast of Billy Boy live in the studio performing a track from his new CD, directed by Mako Funasaka www.talkinblues.com

THE SUMMER OF SHARRIE: Cruising on the strength of her ultra soulful Electro-Fi debut disc “I’M HERE TO STAY” which enjoyed a six month stay on the Living Blues Radio Charts and her 2008 Blues Music Award nomination, Sharrie Williams brought her dynamic Live show to Festival stages all across the U.S.A. and Canada. Including a truly memorable performance at the Pocono Blues Festival in July. Watch for a new release from this talented singer - songwriter, co-produced by Michael Cloeren, in the Fall of 2009.

MOTOR CITY MOJO MASTER: Harmonica Shah toured Europe twice this Summer with Festival gigs in France, Germany, Luxembourg and Finland. Watch for a new disc from Shah in 2009.

Fruteland Jackson with Electro-Fi’s Andrew Galloway at the Kitchener Blues Festival, where Andrew was honoured to receive the 2008 Mel Brown Award. Fruteland who was a 2008 Blues Music Award nominee for his “TELL ME WHAT YOU SAY” album will be appearing at the 14th annual Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland Nov.7-16. www.fruteland.com

RADIO, RADIO:  All 3 go Top 5! We are mighty happy to report that all 3 of our Spring releases Billy Boy Arnold “Billy Boy Sing Sonny Boy”, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne “Can’t Stop Now” and Julian Fauth “Ramblin’ Son” charted in the in Top 5 on XM Radio’s B.B. KING’S BLUESVILLE hosted by Bill Wax.  JULIAN FAUTH’S new album also received a very insightful review by Eric Thom in the Oct./Nov issue of Blues Revue. In our opinion no other young artist on the scene today combines the old with the new as skilfully as Julian Fauth does. Check him out at www.julianfauth.com

HARRISON KENNEDY: Bluesman extraordinaire Harrison Kennedy had a busy Summer after having his recent CD “HIGH COUNTRY BLUES” chosen as Blues CD of the Month in Britain’s prestigious MOJO magazine, with exceptional shows at the Vancouver Folk Festival, the Ottawa Blues Festival, Mont Tremblant, The Southside Shuffle  and a Tour of France thrown in for good measure. Harrison’s Electro-Fi debut HIGH COUNTRY BLUES landed on a lot of the best of 2007 lists. Look for a new Album from Harrison and a U.S. Tour in 2009. www.harrisonkennedy.com

FATHEAD: Continues to celebrate “Building Full of Blues” winning the 2008 JUNO Award (Canada’s Grammy) as Blues Recording of the Year, with tours of Western and Atlantic Canada. www.fathead.biz

KENNY “Blues Boss” WAYNE: In addition to his busy tour schedule on both sides of the Atlantic in support of “Can’t Stop Now” and his Piano – Rama Festival appearances. Keyboard maestro Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne has written a stage musical tribute to FATS DOMINO entitled “Ain’t That A Shame". www.kennybluesboss.com

MUSICAL HIGHLIGHT OF THE SUMMER: In a Summer full of great music, my own personal highlight was in a small 80 seat club called The Boathouse, where as part of The Kitchener Blues Festival, Legendary guitarists MEL BROWN and DUKE ROBILLARD, who as Duke reminded us had last shared a stage together back in 1972 at Max’s Kansas City in N.Y.C. were brought together in what was advertised as a Guitar Workshop. It was that alright and so much more, on a small stage before a packed house, minus a band, DUKE and MEL, tossing licks back and forth, took us on an astounding tour of the world of Blues Guitar. Suffice to say, anyone lucky enough to be there will never forget it. MEL BROWN is enjoying much improved health and is hard at work on a new album for release in 2009. www.melbrownblues.com

Speaking of Great Guitarists who are hard at work on new CD’s Italy’s gift to the world of Blues ENRICO CRIVELLARO will be following his Electro-Fi debut “Key To My Kingdom” with an eagerly awaited new disc in 2009. www.enricocrivellaro.com
