Darrel Michael Wheaton - 1956 - 2009 Print E-mail
Written by Press Release

It is with great sadness that I write to you about the passing of Michael Wheaton (the owner of George's Roadhouse) on Sunday, March 8, 2009. I remember very clearly the first time I met Michael; we were sitting around a table at Ducky's trying to get the blues society off the ground. Since there was no money in the pot, we were working out a loss-sharing ratio at my insistence. Michael was more interested in making the music possible, and promised to do whatever was necessary. Little did I know how true those words would ring over the years, and not just for the blues society. Much credit is due to him for making it possible for George's to become one of the musical hubs of the Maritimes...and he did this quietly behind the scenes without any expectation of credit. So long Michael, and thanks for all the music.
